Tsunami and response from INTACT Catastrophe Foundation
Tsunami attacked South Indian coast in December 2004, destroyed many precious human and animal lives and devastated the quality of lives. INTACT immediately responded to the tragedy by plunging into action in the coastal area which falls in Nagapattinam district, more specifically Tarangambadi and Sirkali Taluks.
On early days INTACT has distributed relief materials to the needy persons in the villages in Nagapattinam
district:
Karan Theru, Velipalayam, Pudupalayam, Kesavanpalayam, Rajivpuram, Kazhuvan thittu, Samayan Theru, Chindhadhiripettai, Sathankudi, Pillaiperumalnallur, Veppancheri, Anaikoil,Chinna Anaikoil, Pillai Colony, Periya Manickampangu, Chinna Manickampangu
We hired a truck and a van to transport relief materials such as food packets, water packets, masks and baby food and to evacuate people to the temporary camps in various places. There were also many private companies, charity organisations and individuals supplying food and used clothes mostly in fishing villages. In some villages food was in abundance and we had to be careful in identifying the villages those were not reached and who were in need of help.
